I am about to graduate with my engineering degree which is great, but this idea you need to go to college is insane. Most people just take on so much debt to enter a different field. We are losing so much time in money in those 4 years.
You have to be VERY intentional with your choice. Going to college for “business,” I’m sorry, is not going to cut it. Don’t get me wrong I love my English majors but what can you really do with that besides teaching? If you want to teach go for it but just taking English because you love literature, while commendable and I how I think it should work (you should be able to do what you love), is not how it actually works. And even if you do choose right it still might not work out, I chose computer science because at the time it was booming and I actually found I loved to code thankfully, but by the time I graduated this May, the market is scarce. I am hopeful, though.
I was in the same position failing college because I trade full time. So I just ended up switching my major to something easy and then had only a year left in college. But depending on your degree and intellectual level then you can focus on wealth while being in college. Ive met a lot of self made entrepreneurs in my college who still got a degree. Its all down to personal preference at the end of the day. College is super easy but most got the brains for wealth and not for both college and wealth. Its all mindset. I may consider doing an mba because its actually not a lot of content that I don’t already know, so the content wouldn’t be difficult at all. However there are people who don’t have the ability to do college and get wealth at the same time, and thats perfectly fine. Not everyone can find college easy and wealth easy. Sometimes its just one or the other.
Not everyone can figure it out without going to college. I’m glad that it turns out great for you.
The problem with this is that most wont make it, we are only hearing the anecdotal reference from one of the few
Alot dont make college. Your an 18 year old deciding the rest of your career. What are the chances that you change your mind in a year or so and have already wasted thousands. Then there’s the possibility you just dont pass your classes. If you dont goto college you can just apply somewhere else if you dont like it.😊
Well obviously not everyone can make it. But you cannot decide not to go to college and still make a decent living.
Even going to college nowadays is getting more difficult to get a job afterwards just because everyone wants to go down the same path makes your value drop since person A has the exact same as Person B they need to get an edge like an internship for that job
What percentage of people who graduated university have an occupation directly involved in their major? Is it even 50 percent?
A lot of smart people are not going to college now. I am glad I didn’t because I have no student loans and instead have over 100k saved up from working that I can invest and I have a sales job making good money no degree.
You’re a Legend, Graham. Your story reminds me of something I heard someone say in the past. “You couldn’t achieve unconventional levels of success by following a conventional path”
This is the exception not the rule. 99.9999999% of people will not make it without at lease a college degree. That means YOU (whoever is reading this) need to go to college
80% of people waste money on college
Trade school > College
Love that the clip you used of a classroom is from Harvards science cemter
Geometry is sophomore year in high school 😂
There’s more advanced geometry in college, but probably not in the majors that Graham is thinking of (majors that students take to optimize career prospects)
I met most of my friends from college and much of my happiness comes from those people. Can’t say I’d be richer without them, but meeting people and having friends becomes more important the older u get and money becomes less important.
There is nothing wrong with going to college, just research the career prospects for the degree you choose and understand what you’re buying.
I am currently 21 years old did what he said. Tried real estate for a year. Absolutely hated the job. I didn’t like working weekends all the time. Working 60-70 hours a week is normal in that career. Sitting in an office making phone calls all day lead generating. Very soul sucking. Now I’m doing carpentry and trying to find a career based on what I will enjoy and not chasing a check for a soul sucking job. Ideally you find something that you enjoy and pays well. But in my opinion do something you think you’ll be able to do until you retire. Something that’s enjoyable.
Now real estate agents and devs are working at Mcdonalds. He got in when the housing market was beyond great. Timing is very, very important.
Do what you love and what you’re good at. For some, college ain’t it, and that’s just the way it is. You should evaluate that for yourself. For me, I love college, and I’m doing great. My major is chemical engineering and I love my classes. It’s all subjective man
