I do 50% upfront for labor and the rest when job is completed. Also all of the material cost paid directly by the client without mark up, unless I have to pick said materials up myself. I’ll do a small delivery fee. The job starts when all materials are on site with a signed contract for said scope and terms/conditions.
This has worked out great for myself and my clients. It weeds out the ones who want to play games and keeps me motivated to get the job done quick but correctly. Even if I takes me a little bit longer. I don’t gouge people. If I’m satisfied, the client is above and beyond happy.
